Connect with your community! One of San José's greatest resources is the diversity of people who call this city home. By choosing to volunteer, all San José residents have the opportunity to strengthen our great city by connecting with their families, their neighbors, and their communities through service.
Volunteering is as easy as serving food in a senior center, picking up litter, planting a school garden, reading to a child, or educating families about important programs that can empower their lives.

City boards and commissions were established for the purpose of advising the City Council and providing ongoing input into policies and issues affecting the future of the San José community. All persons seeking membership on a board or commission must be San José residents and some commissions have additional membership requirements. Most applications will be reviewed and applicants interviewed by the Project Diversity Screening Committee. Applicants are appointed by the City Council. Members are usually appointed for a three-year term. All meetings are open to the public and copies of the agendas are available at least 72 hours prior to any regularly scheduled meeting.
